Baker Confident With Winning Rupert

Friday, 2nd December 2016

Sydney-based trainer Bjorn Baker is looking forward to unbeaten colt Winning Rupert (Written Tycoon-Winaura, by Show a Heart) returning to action on Saturday, reports Racing Queensland Webnews. Winning Rupert won his only two starts as a juvenile including the Gr2 Champagne Classic (1200m) at Doomben during the winter. A $67,500 purchase by Baker at the 2015 Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale from the draft of Eliza Park International, the now 3YO is being aimed at the inaugural Queensland Summer Crowns series. There is a $500,000 bonus for any horse that can win three races in its category during the Summer Crown series. The three legs of the 3YO series begins with Saturday's Listed BRC Mode Plate (1200m), followed by the Gold Edition and Vo Rogue Plates. Baker also sees the Summer Crowns series as the perfect build-up to the Magic Millions Guineas (1400m) at the Gold Coast on 14 January. "He was a bit crook and had a bit of a virus in the spring so we decided not to go to Melbourne and headed for Brisbane after they announced the bonus for the triple crown races," Baker said. "His main aim is the Magic Millions (Guineas) but these triple crown races fit in perfectly." He added: "He's had three trials and I'm really happy with him."
