Patience Could Provide Big Reward With Mare

Friday, 2nd December 2016

If good things come to those who wait, Abidewithme will get her Gr1 win at Trentham in the Captain Cook Stakes (1600m) on Saturday, reports NZ Racing Desk. The beautifully bred Redoute's Choice mare is in foal to Tavistock and will not race past Boxing Day, when she is scheduled to tackle the Gr1 Zabeel Classic at Ellerslie. The Captain Cook will be her 15th start at the highest level, but co-trainer Stephen Autridge believes she is better equipped to win a big race now than at any other stage in her career. "I think she's finally come of age and being in foal has probably helped as well," he said. "When she came back in for this campaign she looked the best she had ever been." He added: "She's never been very big or strong and is only just getting there now. She was always going to get better with time and has just taken longer than most." Abidewithme is coming off a win in the weight-for-age Gr2 Tauranga Stakes (1600m) at Tauranga. Bred by Sir Patrick and Lady Hogan's Cambridge Stud, Abidewithme is a half-sister to VRC Oaks runner-up Miss Scarlatti (Stravinsky) from the Gr2-winning Zabeel mare Crimson. This is also the family of Gr1 VRC Derby winner Omnicorp & Gr2 Sandown Cup winner Pharostan.
