Kuro Wins Listed Starlight Stakes

Monday, 5th December 2016

At Rosehill Gardens in Sydney, Darley's Gr1 Golden Rose Stakes-winning stallion Denman (Lonhro-Peach, by Vain) added a black-type success when 5YO gelding Kuro (Denman-Distinctive Lass, by Orientate) scored by 0.8 length for trainer Joseph Pride in the $125,000 Listed Starlight Stakes (1100m) for 3YO+, over 4YO mare Nieta (Nicconi-Brookton Flash, by Spartacus) & fellow 5YO gelding Princefamous (Fast 'n' Famous-Vesuvia, by O'Reilly). Kuro improved his record to 7 wins (including the Listed Mick Dittman Plate, Listed Brian Crowley Stakes & Listed Heritage Stakes) and 8 placings (including the Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes & Gr1 Galaxy) from 25 starts for $581,025 earnings. Kuro is raced by Champion Thoroughbreds who purchased him for $170,000 at the 2013 NZ Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale from the draft of Curraghmore Stud. "He's a very talented sprinter. He ran second in the Galaxy [Gr1] over this track and distance one day so he only had to get within a length or two of that type of form to be hard to beat," Pride told Sky Racing. "Hopefully its onwards and upwards from here now that he's back in the winner's circle."
