Malice Wins Listed ATC Cup

Monday, 5th December 2016

At Rosehill Gardens in Sydney, unbeaten European Champion juvenile & dual Gr1-winning Darley shuttler Teofilo (Galileo-Speirbhean, by Danehill) added a black-type success when Godolphin's 6YO gelding Malice (Teofilo-Aforethought, by Encosta de Lago) scored by 0.4 length for trainer John O'Shea in the $125,000 Listed ATC Cup (2000m) for 3YO+, over 7YO UK-bred gelding Beyond Thankful (Whipper-Beyond Compare, by Galileo) & 8YO gelding Iggi Pop (Savabeel-Freequence, by O'Reilly). This Malice's first stakes victory since landing the ATC Cup way back in 2014 and in the process improved his record to 6 wins and 12 placings (including the BRC Lord Mayor's Cup, Gr3 Frank Packer Plate & Gr3 ATC Doncaster Mile Prelude) from 35 starts for $566,100 earnings. Trainer John O'Shea said he will give some thought to running Malice in the Gr2 Villiers Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick on 17 December. "We're thinking of running him in the Villiers but we'll have to see what James [James Doyle] says," he told Sky Racing. "He has good form over a mile at Randwick so we'll see what happens."
