Rupert Keeps On Winning

Monday, 5th December 2016

Winning Rupert took a stranglehold on the 3YO category of the Queensland Summer Crowns series with a record breaking win in the QTIS Three-Year-Old Plate (1200m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday, reports Racing Queensland Webnews. Ridden by in-form jockey Jeff Lloyd, Winning Rupert (Written Tycoon-Winaura, by Show a Heart) showed blistering gate speed to lead all the way for a brilliant 5.75 length win over Crack Me Up and Crazy Pops. Winning Rupert's time of 1:09.42 seconds bettered the previous mark of 1 min 09.61 seconds. A $67,500 purchase by Baker at the 2015 Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale from the draft of Eliza Park International, Winning Rupert is now undefeated in three starts after previous wins at Caloundra in April and in the Gr2 Champagne Classic at Doomben in May. "He's a very promising horse with a nice future," said Clare Cunningham, stable representative for trainer Bjorn Baker. "We don't like getting ahead of ourselves but we've got a horse with a motor so fingers crossed with him." The son of Written Tycoon will now contest the final two legs of the 3YO Triple Crown - the Listed Gold Edition Plate at Doomben on December 17 and the Gr3 Vo Rogue Plate (1400m) a fortnight later - ahead of the Magic Millions Guineas at the Gold Coast on January 14.
