Trainer Devising Oaks Plan

Tuesday, 6th December 2016

Devise has a lot to live up to but the half-sister to Gr2 winner and Gr1 placegetter Zurella has made an encouraging start, reports NZ Racing Desk. Bred by her owner The Oaks Stud, the 3YO Darci Brahma filly won for the second time in her three start career when she beat the older horses at Trentham on Saturday. "I really love this filly," trainer Shaune Ritchie said. "I don't know if she's as good as Zurella, but she has got a better attitude." He added: "We were keen to take her to Trentham as we think she's an Oaks filly so we'll make a plan of attack for that." The Oaks Stud and Ritchie celebrated an outstanding result in the 2012 Gr1 New Zealand Oaks when they quinellaed the classic with Artistic and Zurella (Zabeel). Zurella won five of her 28 starts, including the Gr2 Sir Tristram Fillies Classic, Gr2 Let's Eope Stakes & Gr3 Eulogy Stakes, for mover $486,000 in prize money. Apart from her NZ Oaks placing, she was also third in a Gr1 Waikato Sprint. Both Devise and Zurella are out of the Volksraad mare Doneze Girl, a granddaughter of Shadea, dam of champion racehorse and stallion Lonhro. This is also the family of champion sprinter Lankan Rupee, Victoria Derby winning stallion Grosvenor, and Australian Oaks winner Mahaya.
