Rockhampton To Honour Our Boy Malachi

Wednesday, 7th December 2016

Dual Gr2 winning sprinter Our Boy Malachi will have a public farewell at his home track of Rockhampton this Saturday, reports AAP. Known as the 'Rockhampton Rocket', Our Boy Malachi was retired last month after suffering a bleeding attack in the Gr1 Darley Classic at Flemington. Trained by the triumvirate of John, Wayne & Michael Hawkes in Sydney, 8YO won an incredible 19 races from 27 starts for $946,400 in prize money. His biggest wins were in the Gr2 Expressway Stakes and Gr2 Caulfield Sprint Handicap, while he also boasts a Gr1 placing (3rd) in last year's BTC Cup in Brisbane. "He is the people's horse and I always said that I would bring him back to Rockhampton to say goodbye to his loyal followers," owner Ross Donovan told the Rockhampton Jockey Club.
