Trainer's Faith In Filly Rewarded
Unbeaten filly Volpe Veloce (Foxwedge-Bardego, by Barathea) has filled a hole in Graham Richardson's bank account, reports NZ Racing Desk. The Matamata trainer loved the filly as a type, but he did not have any owners signed up when he paid $240,000 for her as a yearling at Karaka in January last year. "I hope everything goes well for the horse, if only for the owners," Richardson said. "They have put a lot of faith in me." He added: "I didn't have an owner at the time and it took 12 to 13 months to sell her. It was a long time, but that's what the game is all about. Sometimes you have to have a go." Volpe Veloce, who is coming off a comfortable 2.3 length win at Tauranga last start, will bid to extend her perfect record to five in Saturday's Gr3 Eulogy Stakes at Awapuni. "She has thrived since. We couldn't be happier with her," Richardson said. By Newgate Farm's Gr1-winning shuttle stallion Foxwedge (Fastnet Rock), the aptly named Volpe Veloce, whose name in Italian translates to "fast fox", is a half-sister to Listed Black Opal Stakes winner Delago Bolt from the Gr3 Blue Diamond Preview winning filly Bardego.
