Treve To Visit Shalaa

Thursday, 8th December 2016

Champion French mare Treve will be covered by dual Gr1 winner Shalaa (Invincible Spirit) who will stand his first season at owner Al Shaqab's stud Haras de Bouquetot in France next year, reports Thoroughbred Daily News. Treve (Motivator), who will best remembered as a two-time winner of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, retired in October last year with 9 wins - six at Gr1 level - from 13 starts for £5,939,665 earnings. She is one of only seven horses to have won Europe's weight-for-age championship twice. "It is important for us to support our stallions and this year Treve will go to Shalaa, along with Twyla Tharp (Sadler’s Wells), the dam of The Fugue, and between 20 and 30 good black-type mares," said Haras de Bouquetot’s manager Benoit Jeffroy. "We’re going to breed about 150 mares to Shalaa and about 25% of those are Irish and 25% English. The rest are split between our own mares and French mares.” Trained by John Gosden, Shalaa proved himself to be the best juvenile in Europe last season winning 5 of his 6 starts including Gr1 victories in the Middle Park Stakes and Prix Morny. Frankie Dettori labelled Shalaa the best juvenile he had ever ridden.
