First Among Equals Tough To Crack At Ascot

Friday, 9th December 2016

With New Zealand hosting three Group races this weekend, the lone Australian Group affair is at Ascot in Perth, where a small but very talented field of six runners clash in the Gr3 A.J. Scahill Stakes. With only the 3YO Lusaha given weight relief on 54kgs, the remaining five older horses all carry the steadier 59kgs over the 1400m trip. They include First Among Equals, beaten just a length by Hong Kong-bound Takedown in the recent Gr1 Winterbottom Stakes. Vega Magic was also close up in that race but is a query at the extra 200 metres, not something that will trouble Chocolate Holic who has Pike to do the steering. WA's Champion jockey has ridden the progressive 4YO to victory on all six occasions where he's had the mount.
