Volpe Veloce Wins Gr3 Eulogy Stakes

Monday, 12th December 2016

At Awapuni in New Zealand, Newgate Farm's Gr1-winning shuttle stallion Foxwedge (Fastnet Rock-Forest Native, by Forest Wildcat ) added a Group success when exciting 3YO filly Volpe Veloce (Foxwedge-Bardego, by Barathea) scored a comfortable 1.5 length win for trainer Graham Richardson in the NZ$70,000 Gr3 Eulogy Stakes (1600m) for 3YO fillies, over fellow 3YO fillies Rip Into Ghia (Rip Van Winkle-Karmann Ghia, by Volksraad) & Storytime (Savabeel-Authoress, by Fuji Kiseki). The aptly named Volpe Veloce, whose name in Italian translates to "fast fox", extended her unbeaten record to 5 wins (including the Listed Castletown Stakes) from 5 starts for NZ$93,750. The exciting filly could step up to Gr1 company at her next start. "I'm undecided at the moment. There's the Eight Carat [Gr2] at Ellerslie or we could go to Trentham for the Levin Classic [Gr1], it will be one of those two races," trainer Graham Richardson told NZ Racing Desk. Purchased for NZ$240,000 by Richardson Racing at the 2015 NZ Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale from the draft of Lyndhurst Farm, Volpe Veloce is a half-sister to Listed Black Opal Stakes winner Delago Bolt from the Gr3 Blue Diamond Preview winning filly Bardego.
