First Gr1 Winner For Frankel

Tuesday, 13th December 2016

Frankel has sired his first Gr1 winner after his daughter Soul Stirring claimed the Hanshin Juvenile Fillies (1600m) in Japan on Sunday. Trained by Kazuo Fujisawa and ridden by top jockey Christophe Lemaire, Soul Stirring lived up to luminous pedigree when sprinting clear for a dominant 1.5 length victory over Lys Gracieux (Heart's Cry) and Reine Minoru (Daiwa Major). Bred by Shadai Farm, Soul Stirring is out of six-time Gr1 winner Stacelita (Monsun). Crowned Champion 3YO Filly in France 2009, Stacelita won 10 of her 18 starts including Gr1 victories in the Prix de Diane, Prix Saint-Alary, Prix Vermeille, Prix Jean Romanet, Flower Bowl Invitational Stakes, and Beverly D Stakes. Lemaire said of Soul Stirring's win: "I'm ecstatic. It's so special because I used to also ride her dam Stacelita and Soul Stirring is out of her and by that great horse Frankel," he said. "I was confident from the beginning and we were in a good position and she was relaxed. She easily hit the front at the stretch and with her big strides and stamina, I think she can go a little bit further in distance." Soul Stirring is now undefeated in three career starts. Trained by the late Sir Henry Cecil, Frankel (Galileo-Kind, by Danehill) was unbeaten in 14 starts, winning ten Gr1 races and finishing his racing career with a phenomenal Timeform Rating of 147 - the highest in history. He stands at Juddmonte's Banstead Manor Stud at Newmarket.
