Arrogate Sizzles In Trackwork

Thursday, 15th December 2016

Trainer Bob Baffert is considering giving star US galloper Arrogate (Unbridled's Song-Bubbler, by Distorted Humor) a lead-up run to January's Pegasus World Cup following an impressive piece of work at Santa Anita Park on Tuesday, reports Blood Horse. Arrogate, who shot to the top of the World's Best Racehorse Rankings following his thrilling win over California Chrome in the Gr1 Breeders' Cup Classic in November, sizzled around Santa Anita in a time of :58 2/5 seconds for 5-furlongs prompting Baffert to reassess the colt's 2017 program. Baffert said the 3YO could potentially make his 2017 debut in the Gr2 San Pasqual Stakes 98.5 furlongs) before shaping up for a rematch with California Chrome in the inaugural running of the US$12 million Gr1 Pegasus World Cup at Gulfstream Park on 28 January. "After that the San Pasqual might be an option, here at Santa Anita," Baffert said. "The Pegasus is still there. If I wanted to prep him, I could run him there and then run him in the Pegasus. " He added: "With what he did today, I don't know if I can sit on him that long. After today, he's pretty ready." In an ominous warning to rivals, jockey Martin Garcia said Arrogate continues to get better. "He's so impressive," Garcia said."After retiring American Pharoah, I never dreamt I would be dealing with another horse of his calibre, but this horse is just getting stronger and better every day."
