Blue Blooded Filly Still Unbeaten
Crystal Fountain, a three-quarter sister to former champion Australian 3YO filly Serenade Rose, extended her unbeaten record to two wins from as many starts when winning a fillies and mares benchmark 64 race (1221m) at Geelong yesterday. Trained by Lee & Anthony Freedman and carrying the navy blue silks of Coolmore Stud, Crystal Fountain (Stravinsky-Pride Of Tralee, by Redoute's Choice) was a $180,000 purchase by renowned bloodstock agent James Bester at the 2015 NZ Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale from the draft of Cambridge Stud. Stable representative Ash Yargi said Crystal Fountain should only improve over more ground. "She's obviously got that staying pedigree behind her and I think she will definitely get further...but she will have to settle a little bit better if she is to get out over ground," he told racing.com. Jockey Daniel Moor was also impressed with the win. "I thought today's win was more impressive than her first win. Stepping up in grade is not easy. Most horses going from a maiden to this grade usually take a few starts to win another one," he said. "She always travelled in hand and coming out of the dip she built into her action well and was strong to the line." Serenade Rose, who was joint top filly on the 2005-06 Australasian 3YO Classification, won 8 of her 19 starts for over $1.7 million in prize money. During the spring of 2005 and autumn of 2006 she proved the dominant staying filly in the country winning three races at Gr1 level, namely the VRC Oaks, Australian Oaks, and Arrowfield Stud Stakes.
