Fanatic Returns To Winner's Circle

Monday, 19th December 2016

Talented staying mare Fanatic (Shocking-Komplete Klass, by Groom Dancer) powered into contention for the major summer cups after turning her fortunes around with an impressive performance at Te Rapa on the weekend, reports NZ Racing Desk. The 4YO won her first race since claiming last season's New Zealand Oaks on protest when she proved a class above her opposition in Saturday's Dunstan Feeds Championship Qualifier. In between times, Fanatic and her connections suffered a bizarre piece of bad luck in the spring when a spider bite ruled he out of contention for the Gr1 Caulfield Cup and forced her to return home early. "We thought she may have needed another run, but she was very impressive," said trainer Debbie Sweeney, who prepares the daughter of Shocking with Graeme Sanders. "As long as she pulls up well, she'll go to the City of Auckland Cup on New Year's Day."
