NZ Racing Mourns Loss Of Rebecca Black
New Zealand racing was dealt a tragic blow yesterday with the death of South Island jockey Rebecca Black in a race fall at Gore, reports NZ Racing Desk. The Riverton-based Black was riding Point Proven in race eight when the horse knuckled and fell near the 700 metre mark. Misscattlecreek and rider Terry Moseley also crashed in the incident with Moseley emerging without major injury although Misscattlecreek had to be humanely euthanized. Racing Integrity Unit (RIU) stipendiary stewards have opened and then adjourned an inquiry into the incident. Black, a mother of three children, rode 108 winners during her career and was a well liked member of the southern racing fraternity.
