Star Mare Set To Be Stripped Of Prize Money
Australian racing authorities are set to strip Gr1-winning mare Azkadellia of more than $1.5 million in prize money as a result of an investigation into her ownership bona fides, the Sydney Morning Herald reported yesterday. Azkadellia, considered one of the best mares in the country after her win in the Gr1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes in the autumn, has been prohibited from racing since Racing Victoria launched the investigation in September. Ben Connolly, racing manager for Azkadellia's Victorian-based trainer Ciaron Maher, is alleged to have nominated himself as the sole owner of Azkadellia to conceal the identity of her true owner - convicted fraudster Peter Foster.
