Herbie Dyke Target For Capella

Wednesday, 21st December 2016

Smart Kiwi mare Capella (Rip Van Winkle-Limerick, by Grosvenor) has at least one top-flight feature on her summer programme, reports NZ Racing Desk. The 4YO showed she was approaching her best form again when she resumed with a close second over 1400m at Ellerslie earlier this month. "I'm very happy with her, it was a good run and a bit of a relief really," trainer Danica Guy said. "It was a nice effort going forward. We're looking at the Rich Hill Mile [Gr1] and maybe the Thorndon Mile [Gr1] and then the Herbie Dyke Stakes [Gr1]." Guy added: "The Herbie Dyke is her main target and a trip to Trentham for the Thorndon will depend on her next run." The lightly raced Capella has won 3 of her 12 starts hitherto, highlighted by her victory in the Gr2 Eight Carat Classic this time last year.
