Sacred Elixir Progressing Well

Wednesday, 21st December 2016

Top three-year-old Sacred Elixir (Pour Moi-Baltika, by Stravinsky) is making smooth progress in his build-up toward another Group One title, reports NZ Racing Desk. "He had his first gallop last Saturday morning and he's coming up super, I couldn't be happier with him," Cambridge trainer Tony Pike said. "He looks great and we'll just keep him ticking over until the Karaka 3YO Mile." The NZB Karaka 3YO Mile will be run at Ellerslie on 29 January. Successful in the Gr1 JJ Atkins at Eagle Farm in the winter, Sacred Elixir travelled to Melbourne for the spring where he added the Gr2 Moonee Valley Vase and Gr3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude to his winning tally. His most recent outing saw him finish runner-up to Prized Icon in the Gr1 Victoria Derby at Flemington before heading for a spell. The son of Pour Moi has the $1 million Gr1 New Zealand Derby at Ellerslie on 4 March as the final target of his classic season. Bred by Graham De Gruchy, Sacred Elixir is the first foal out of the Stravinsky mare Baltika, a granddaughter of De Gruchy's champion New Zealand mare Horlicks.
