Admiral Wins Listed Tasmanian Stakes
At Launceston in Tasmania, Gr1-winning & 4-time Gr1-placed Vinery Stud stallion Mossman (Success Express-Lichen Lady, by Twig Moss) added a black-type success when 5YO gelding Admiral (Mossman-Reunification, by West Quest) scored by 0.5 length for trainer Barry Campbell in the $100,000 weight-for-age Listed Tasmanian Stakes (1600m) for 3YO+, over 6YO gelding Hellova Street (Helike-Butter Street, by Secret Savings) & 4YO gelding Jerilderie Letter (Bushranger-Pirate's Sirene, by Portland Pirate). Admiral confirmed his status as the weight-for-age star of Tasmania and in the process set a new track record time of 1:34.48. He improved his record to 15 wins (including the Listed Conquering Stakes, Listed Thomas Lyons Stakes, Listed George Adams Plate, Listed Tasmanian Guineas, Listed Gold Sovereign Stakes & Listed Elwick Stakes) and 5 placings (including the Listed TTC Newmarket Handicap & Listed Thomas Lyons Stakes) from 25 starts for $734, 900 earnings. Trainer Barry Campbell said Admiral was in the best form of his career. "He really came on from his last run. I galloped him Saturday morning and said it will take a good one to beat him," Campbell told Sky Racing. "I reckon this horse is better than he was last year. He's the best he's ever been. He seems to have strengthened and matured...He's going really well."
