Kawi In Top Shape

Thursday, 22nd December 2016

Top Kiwi galloper Kawi (Savabeel-Magic Time, by Volksraad) has returned to training ahead of a potential Trans-Tasman campaign in the late summer and autumn, reports theinformant.co.nz. The 6YO increased his Gr1 tally to five with domestic wins in the Makfi Challenge Stakes and Windsor Park Plate in the spring, before embarking on a three-start campaign in Perth. His first two outings resulted in fourth-placed efforts in the Gr1 Kingston Town Classic and the Gr2 Lee Steere Stakes, before rounding out his first Australian sojourn with a sixth placing in the Gr1 Railway Stakes. Trainer Allan Sharrock said Kawi had coped perfectly with the trip home. "He travelled home beautifully," Sharrock said. "He's doing so well that I had to start working him again on Monday." He added: "Everything's on track and he'll resume in the Group One sprint [the Gr1 NRM Sprint] at Te Rapa on February 11."
