Lady Le Fay Back Home For Gr1 Tilt
Stakes-winning mare Lady Le Fay (Thorn Park-Mia le Fay, by Zabeel) has returned home to New Zealand in a bid to capture an elusive Group One title, reports theinformant.co.nz. Formerly trained by Paul and Kris Shailer, Lady Le Fay then crossed the Tasman to join the stable of champion trainer Chris Waller under whom she posted several creditable performances including a fourth in the Gr1 Queen of the Turf Stakes, sixth in the Gr1 Doomben Cup, and more recently a second in the Gr3 Angst Stakes at Randwick in the spring. Now with Tony Pike, the 6YOs immediate target is the Gr1 Zabeel Classic (2000m) at Ellerslie on Boxing Day. "I haven't had her in my stable for very long. She arrived back in New Zealand last Wednesday," said Pike. "We gave her a few quiet days to settle in, then we gave her a gallop on Monday morning. She worked very well then and I was really pleased with her." Pike added: ""She was extremely unlucky in a few strong races in Australia. It's never easy to match up Australian form with New Zealand form, but I'm happy with her condition heading into the race and I won't be surprised if she runs a very good race."
