Logan Maintains Faith Despite Setback

Friday, 23rd December 2016

Volkstok'n'barrell (Tavistock-Volkster, by Volksraad) has had an interrupted lead-up to Monday's Gr1 Zabeel Classic (2000m) at Ellerslie, but co-trainer Donna Logan remains optimistic, reports NZ Racing Desk. A stone bruise forced the three-time Gr1 winner to miss a race at Tauranga and when he did resume in the Gr1 Captain Cook Stakes at Trentham, he lost his footing at the start before running home for sixth. "I thought it was a very encouraging run," said Logan, who trains in partnership with Chris Gibbs at Ruakaka. "He will be well forward with that run under his belt and I think he's better than he's ever been. He's also drawn well, which is always a big help." Logan and Gibbs also have the highly regarded Hasselhoof engaged in Monday's weight-for-age feature.
