Omei Sword Back In Action

Friday, 3rd February 2017

High class Sydney filly Omei Sword (High Chaparral-Irish Lights, by Fastnet Rock) is set to make her eagerly awaited seasonal reappearance in the Gr3 Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick tomorrow. The 3YO was a brilliant first-up winner of the Gr2 Silver Shadow Stakes in the spring, before ending her campaign with an excellent second to Astern in the Gr1 Golden Rose. "We thought she was going to have a pretty big autumn and taking on older mares so we decided not to push too far [in the spring] when she had a minor setback," trainer Chris Waller told Racing NSW. "She has come back well and is a strong, mature horse now. [She's] had that experience against the boys and proved that she can be up against the depth of those colts." By High Chaparral out of Gr1 Thousand Guineas winner Irish Lights, Omei Sword is a direct descendant of the US-bred mare Change Water, dam of Gr1 winner and outstanding producer Fall Aspen. This is the family of successful sires Bianconi, Fort Wood, Timber Country and Hamas, as well as Gr1 winners Elnadim, Mehthaaf and the great Dubai Millennium.
