Northwest Passage Wins Listed Tasmanian Derby

Monday, 6th February 2017

At Hobart in Tasmania on Friday, Coolmore Stud stallion and former Australian Champion Racehorse So You Think (High Chaparral-Triassic, by Tights) added a black-type success when 3YO gelding Northwest Passage (So You Think-Danevade, by Danehill) scored a dominant 3.3 length win for trainers Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott in the $100,000 Listed Tasmanian Derby (2200m) for 3YOs, over fellow 3YO gelding French Snitzel (Snitzel-French Move, by Montjeu) & 3YO colt Igitur (Helmet-Gaudeamus, by Distorted Humor). Passed in for $140,000 at the 2015 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Newgate Farm, Northwest Passage advanced his record to 4 wins (including the Listed Hobart Guineas) from 5 starts for $179,000 earnings. Northwest Passage is out of the Gr2-placed mare Danevade, a full-sister to multiple Group winner Shania Dane and champion Hong Kong sprinter Scintillation.
