Malaguerra Thriving Ahead Of Orr

Wednesday, 8th February 2017

The mood within the Gelagotis stable is one of buoyant optimism regarding Malaguerra's (Magnus-Tennessee Morn, by Bletchingly) winning prospects in Saturday's Gr1 CF Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield. The dual Gr1 winner, who resumed with a slashing win in the Gr2 Australia Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on 27 January, will be seeking to extend his brilliance and claim his first stakes victory over seven-furlongs in the weight-for-age feature. "Yeah it's frightening [how well he's going]. He's in rare form," racing manager Manny Gelagotis told Racing.com. "I thought he was extremely deadly the other night at Moonee Valley. I couldn't see any reason why he won't train on and do the same thing over seven [furlongs]." He added: "He had a nice conditioning gallop this morning [Tuesday]; he's ticking over beautifully for Saturday." Malaguerra's only other Gr1 attempts over 1400 metres have resulted in a sixth place finish in the All Aged Stakes and a ninth in the Stradbroke Handicap.
