Omei Sword Return Put On Hold

Thursday, 9th February 2017

High-class filly Omei Sword (High Chaparral-Irish Lights, by Fastnet Rock) has been declared a non-runner for Saturday's Gr2 Light Fingers Stakes at Randwick. Trainer Chris Waller will give the 3YO at least another week to recover from a slight muscle strain that precipitated her withdrawal from a first-up run in last weekend's Gr3 Eskimo Prince Stakes at Randwick. "She is still not 100 per cent right. She is working each day but I am reluctant to gallop her until I see her warming up and cooling down without any problems," Waller told Racing.com. "I believe it will still take a few days but she is certainly improving." He added: "My intentions will be to gallop her next week and reassess, hoping to get her to the Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m) on Saturday the 25th of February." A brilliant first-up winner of the Gr2 Silver Shadow Stakes in the spring, Omei Sword has not raced since finishing an excellent second to top colt Astern in the Gr1 Golden Rose on 10 September.
