Spright Return May Be Delayed

Thursday, 9th February 2017

The autumn return of top sprinting filly Spright (Hinchinbrook-Dashoff, by Dash for Cash) may be postponed if Sydney's forecast hot and wet weather eventuates on Saturday. Spright, who stamped herself as one of the best sprinting fillies in the country when defeating a quality field in the Gr3 VRC Crown Resorts Plate (1100m) at Flemington on Oaks day, is scheduled to resume in Saturday's Gr2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) at Randwick, but trainer Gary Frazer is having second thoughts. “Spright has won a couple of trials on wet ground, although races can often be a different story,” Frazer told Racing NSW. "But the prospect of hot weather again does worry me. I don’t fancy the idea of floating her from Hawkesbury to Randwick in 40-degree heat. I’ll just have to play it by ear and see what happens with the weather.” Frazer intends nominating Spright for Queensland’s richest open company sprint, the Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm in June.
