The Champ Is Back!

Friday, 10th February 2017

Chris Waller has provided the final word on champion mare Winx as Australia's best racehorse prepares to kick off her autumn campaign in the Gr2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick tomorrow. The 10-time Gr1 winner, who hasn't raced since her stunning and record-breaking 8 length win in the Cox Plate in October, rounded out her preparation with a final track gallop at Rosehill Gardens yesterday morning. "I was very satisfied with her work this morning," Waller said. "She's a year older but she's stronger and heavier, and is coming together very well. I couldn't be happier with the way her preparation has gone." He added: "Her condition is as I would expect going into a first-up run to be fit and run well." Winx, whose primary autumn target is the $4 million Gr1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on 8 April, will be seeking her 14th successive victory.
