Catchy Wins Gr2 Blue Diamond Prelude for Fillies
At Caulfield racecourse in Melbourne, Coolmore's former Gr1-winning Champion Australian Sire Fastnet Rock (Danehill-Piccadilly Circus, by Royal Academy) added a Group success when 2YO filly Catchy (Fastnet Rock-Cats Whisker, by Fusaichi Pegasus) scored a determined 0.1 length win for trainers David & Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig in the $200,000 Gr2 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) for 2YO fillies, over fellow juvenile fillies Limestone (Helmet-Limerock, by Charge Forward) & Arctic Angel (Hard Spun-Icy Maiden, by Xaar). This was the maiden stakes victory for Catchy who extended her unbeaten record to 3 wins from 3 starts for $187,000 earnings. Jockey Craig Williams, who has previously compared Catchy to former champion filly Miss Finland, commented: "Not many fillies win three from three (starts) and she's been up for a long time with the stable managing her well," Williams told Racing.com. "You had to respect Limestone's form because she's beaten Tulip and when I saw her, she kept coming on the inside. Limestone made my filly work hard for it but I thought once we got on terms we were going to get the result." Catchy is now an outright $6 favourite for the $1.5 million Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield in two weeks (Saturday, 25 February). By Fastnet Rock out of the dual Gr2 winner Cats Whisker (Fusaichi Pegasus), Catchy was purchased by Dorrington Farm for $220,000 at this year's Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Coolmore Stud.
