Change of Plans For Chautauqua?
Jockey Dwayne Dunn says Chautauqua (Encosta de Lago-Lovely Jubly, by Lion Hunter) is probably now best suited racing over seven furlongs or further after finishing his race off in trademark fashion to claim third in Saturday's Gr2 Rubiton Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield. "I just couldn't hit top gear until I really hit the wire," Dunn told AAP. "He seems to be going more like a 1400 metre-miler at the moment." Co-trainer Wayne Hawks agreed with Dunn that the world's highest rated sprinter was looking for further, while vets reported that the mighty grey had a slow post-race recovery rate. "He looks to me like he wants further, like 1400 metres would suit. He was low flying over his final 100 metres, I would love to see that sectional," Hawkes said.
