Lucy Mae Wins Magic Millions WA 2YO Classic

Monday, 13th February 2017

At Pinjarra Park in Western Australia, Widden Stud's Gr1 Golden Slipper-winning stallion Stratum (Redoutes Choice-Bourgeois, by Luskin Star) added a restricted black-type success when 2YO chestnut filly Lucy Mae (Stratum-Razzia, by Scenic) scored by 0.3 length for trainer Ted Martinovich in the $250,000 Magic Millions WA 2YO Classic (1200m), over 2YO geldings Achernar Star (Gingerbread Man-Morine, by Danetime) & Colourful Charade (Oratorio-Agribiz, by Key Business). Lucy Mae, who was an $80,000 purchase by Martin Epis at the 2015 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale from the draft of Scenic Lodge, improved her record to 1 win and 1 placing from 3 starts for $158,200 earnings. Trainer Ted Martinovich commented: "There's not much to her, but she really tried hard and I couldn't be happier." The filly is raced by Martin Epis in partnership with Isobel Ledden - both saying how proud they were of their young star. "Lucy Mae is named after my granddaughter from Kalgoorlie - a special girl and now this filly is very special as well," Ledden said.
