Property Wins Gr3 Blue Diamond Prelude (C&G)
At Caulfield racecourse in Melbourne, former Arrowfield Stud and now Rosemont Stud-based 5-time Gr1-winning stallion Starcraft (Soviet Star-Flying Floozie, by Pompeii Court) added a Group success when 2YO colt Property (Starcraft-Opalize, by Anabaa) scored by 0.75 length for trainer Robert Smerdon in the $200,000 Gr3 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) for 2YO colts & geldings, over fellow 2YO colts Pariah (Redoute's Choice-Secluded, by Hussonet) & Wait For No One (Lonhro-Divine Choice, by Rock of Gibraltar). Property, a $130,000 purchase by Aquanita Racing at the 2016 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale from the draft of Amarina Farm, improved his record to 2 wins (including the Listed Blue Diamond Preview) and 1 placing from 3 starts for $225,900 earnings. Property is now an $8 chance for the Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) in two weeks (25 February). However, in order to take his chance in the $1.5 million feature, his connections will have to pay a $55,000 late entry fee. Jockey Craig Williams, for one, thinks Property's owners should take the punt. "He was impressive today," Williams told Racing.com. "He was a bit awkward in the gates but flew out, found his position and relaxed well. The extra trip (of the Blue Diamond) won't be an issue for him."
