Star Sprinter Confirmed For Otaki
New Zealand's champion sprinter Start Wondering (Eighth Wonder-Roseanbar, by Akbar) will step up to a mile next time out, reports NZ Racing Desk. The star Wanganui galloper will be given the chance to add another Group One title to his record in the Haunui Farm WFA Classic at Otaki on Saturday week. "He'll run in the Haunui Farm Classic and then he'll have a spell," said Evan Rayner, who trains the six-year-old with his daughter J. J. "He's been up for a while and there aren't any other races for him anyway." By beautifully bred stallion Eighth Wonder (Zabeel-Diamond Lover, by Sticks and Stones), Start Wondering advanced his record to 10 wins from 18 starts when claiming last weekend's Gr1 NRM Sprint (1400m) at Te Rapa. It was the second Gr1 victory of his career after landing the Railway Stakes on New Year's Day. "I've been training since 1969 and been lucky enough to have some very good horses like Van Winkle and Raywood Lass, who was a Group One winner, but this horse would be steps ahead of them," Rayner added.
