Malaguerra Saved For TJ

Wednesday, 15th February 2017

Dual Gr1-winning sprinter Malaguerra (Magnus-Tennessee Morn, by Bletchingly) will not race again until the $2.5 million Gr1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on 1 April. Trainer Peter Gelagotis said Malaguerra, who resumed with a slashing win in the Gr2 Australia Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on 27 January before a disappointing sixth place finish in last weekend's Gr1 CF Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield, had shown that he races best when his runs are spaced. "He's come through the run really well so he'll be freshened up now and he'll be targeted towards the T.J. Smith," Gelagotis told Racing.com. "His fresh record is impeccable. He's had six starts fresh for five wins and a second and he was so emphatic fresh in the Australia Stakes that we came to the conclusion he'd be best served by spacing his runs."
