Black-Type Beckons Ma Tante

Thursday, 16th February 2017

Anthony Cummings is predicting Ma Tante will scale greater heights than a modest mid-week meeting after she opened her account with a strong win in a benchmark 67 handicap over 1100 metres at Randwick yesterday. "She still has a lot to learn in terms of race craft but she's highly talented with a bright future," Cummings told Sky Racing. "It is difficult to say how far she can go this preparation…but she does have a good future." Purchased by Cummings for $120,000 at the 2015 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Coolmore Stud, Ma Tante is by former Champion US 2YO & Coolmore shuttler Uncle Mo out of the Irish-bred Galileo mare Snapdragon. Ma Tante is also a direct descendant of one of the most important broodmares of the 20th Century in Mumtaz Mahal. One of the Aga Khan's foundation mares, Mumtaz Mahal's influence on the thoroughbred breed has been tremendous with some of her most notable descendants including Mahmoud, Nasrullah, Royal Charger, Abernant, Petite Etoile, and Shergar.
