First Winner For Ocean Park

Monday, 20th February 2017

Former New Zealand Horse of the Year Ocean Park (Thorn Park-Sayyida, by Zabeel) has sired his first winner with the Tony McEvoy-trained Beerzatbernz scoring a 0.3 length win in the Schweppes 2YO Plate (1050m) at Morphettville on Saturday. From the Flying Spur mare Flying Rosa, Beerzatbernz hails from the family of Gr3 Merson Cooper Stakes winner Rosa's Joy (Rory's Jester), stakes winners Rosa's Spur and Rosarino, and six-time stakes winning sprinter Cohort. Trained by Gary Hennessy, Ocean Park was retired to Waikato Stud in 2013 after a brilliant career that yielded 5 Gr1 victories including the Cox Plate in which he defeated top-class colts All Too Hard and Pierro. Ocean Park, who descends form the same family as former multiple champion NZ sire O'Reilly, Golden Slipper & Blue Diamond winner Courtza, and South Australian Derby winner Our Pompeii, stood at Waikato Stud for a fee of $30,000 plus GST in 2016.
