Man From Uncle Wins Gr2 Hobartville Stakes

Monday, 20th February 2017

At Rosehill Gardens in Sydney, Coolmore shuttler and former Champion US 2YO Uncle Mo (Indian Charlie-Playa Maya) added a Group success when 3YO bay gelding Man From Uncle (Uncle Mo-Derelique, by Danehill Dancer) powered home to score by 0.1 length for trainer Anthony Cummings in the $400,000 Gr2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) for 3YOs, over fellow 3YO gelding Echo Effect (Reset-Tyrolean, by Danehill) & Comin' Through (Fastnet Rock-Mica's Pride, by Bite the Bullet). This was successive stakes victories for the progressive Man From Uncle who improved his record to 3 wins (including the Gr3 Eskimo Prince Stakes) and 2 placings (including the Listed Hilton Stakes at Flemington) from 5 starts for $372,050 earnings. Trainer Anthony Cummings confirmed that Man From Uncle will have his next start in the $1 million Gr1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) on 4 March. "I thought his first two races this time in would be the hardest for him," Cummings told AAP. "He's been trained to be at his best for the two Guineas [Randwick & Rosehill Guineas] races and I'm hoping that's the case." Man From Uncle is a direct descendant of the good producing Machiavellian mare Subterfuge, making him a close relation to dual Gr1-winning Hong Kong sprinter Scintillation (Danehill), Gr2-winning Australian mare Shania Dane (Danehill), stakes-winning Queensland mare Risk Aversion, as well as English Derby winner Slip Anchor. He was purchased by his trainer Anthony Cummings for $35,000 at the 2015 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale from the draft of Fairhill Farm.
