Terravista Wins Gr1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes

Monday, 20th February 2017

At Flemington in Melbourne, NZ Westbury Stud shuttler Captain Rio (Pivotal-Beloved Visitor, by Miswaki) celebrated an elite success when 7YO chestnut gelding Terravista (Captain Rio-Parfore, by Gold Brose) scored by 0.1 length for trainer Joseph Pride in the $750,000 weight-for-age Gr1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (1000m) for 3YO+, over 4YO gelding Spieth (Thorn Park-Stella Livia, by Titus Livius) & 3YO colt Star Turn (Star Witness-Golden Delicious, by Made of Gold). Terravista's surprise win improved his record to 11 wins (including the Gr1 Darley Classic, Gr2 Shorts, Gr3 Show County Handicap, Gr3 Liverpool City Cup & Gr3 Southern Cross Stakes) and 6 placings (including the Gr1 Lightning Stakes,  Gr1 TJ Smith Stakes, Gr1 Newmarket Handicap & Listed Festival Stakes) from 25 starts for $2,465,005 earnings.  "It was bad luck for the three-year-olds trying to become stallions but my bloke is just so honest and really deserved to win another Group One," trainer Joe Pride told Racing.com. Pride said Terravista was now likely to be aimed at the inaugural running of the $10 million The Everest (1200m) in October. "The temptation is to take him away to Hong Kong or Ascot, he's got invites to both...but with that race [The Everest] coming up, I feel I have to have the horse ready for that race," he said. Out of the excellent producer Parfore, Terravista is a half- brother to Gr1 winner Tiger Tees, Singapore Horse Of The Year Super Easy, Listed winner Our Lukas, and a full-brother to Gr1 performer Ball Of Muscle.
