English Wins Trial

Tuesday, 21st February 2017

Gr1-winning sprinting mare English (Encosta de Lago-Court, by Anabaa) has continued her autumn preparation with an impressive 0.5 length barrier trial win over Redzel and Japonisme over 800 metres at Warwick Farm yesterday. A winner of the Gr1 All Aged Stakes in Sydney last autumn, the Newhaven Park-owned mare is set to open her autumn campaign in the Gr2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) at Royal Randwick on 4 March. “She didn’t quite come up in the spring for us, but her best form has always been in the autumn and she has come back every bit as well as we’d hoped,” co-trainer Adrian Bott told ANZ Bloodstock News. “She’s holding her condition well and she seems a really happy mare at the moment. Her two trials have been brilliant." Bott added: "We’re following a similar path to last autumn with her, which was successful for us, and we’ll see her kick off in the Challenge Stakes in two weeks’ time.”
