Group One Mare on Easy List

Tuesday, 21st February 2017

Future plans for top New Zealand sprinting mare Perfect Fit are up in the air after her disappointing 11th place finish in the Gr1 NRM Sprint at Te Rapa, reports NZ Racing Desk. "She had mucus in her trachea post-race," said Haunui Farm's Mark Chitty, who bred and co-owns the Elusive City mare. "Even though she sat three wide it helped to explain the below par effort, she was eased out of the race the last bit. She's being treated and we'll see what transpires in the next week and then see if we can get her back to the races competitively." He added: "We would like to have a crack the Westbury Classic again, but we have to make sure that she is 100 per cent before looking at another start." By Elusive City out of the three-time Gr1-winning mare Fayreform, Perfect Fit is trained by Ken and Bev Kelso and is a winner of last year's Gr1 New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes (1600m) at Te Rapa.
