Maher Still Has Faith in Jameka

Tuesday, 28th February 2017

Meanwhile, Ciaron Maher remains optimistic about star mare Jameka's Australian Cup prospects despite her luckless fourth placing in last weekend's Gr2 Peter Young Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield, reports Racing.com. Last season's Caulfield Cup winner looked set for a prosperous autumn campaign when resuming with a slashing fourth in the Gr1 CF Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield, before a poorly judged ride saw her chances go out the window when trapped three wide in the Peter Young. "She didn't get any of the favours. She had to cover ground and did a bit of work up the hill," Maher said. "She was beaten three-quarters of a length, and that [margin] was the extra work she did. So I thought she was pretty good." Maher added: "She normally hits form third-up so I think she's on track, and we're very happy with her." The Gr1 Australian Cup (2000m) will be run at Flemington on 11 March.
