Winx in Top Shape After Latest Win
Chris Waller says champion mare Winx (Street Cry-Vegas Showgirl, by Al Akbar) has pulled up in good order following her win on a heavy track in the Gr1 Chipping Norton Stakes on the weekend. The 10-time Gr1 winner is scheduled to have her next start in the Gr1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on 18 March, before ending her campaign in the showpiece event of The Championships - the $4 million Gr1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on 8 April. "She pulled up well. She was at the beach this morning [Tuesday] walking through the water doing her recovery," Waller told racingnsw.com.au. "The beauty of her racing on Saturday means that she can now have a leisurely time for the next seven days and then start to gear up for the George Ryder Stakes." Waller also put an end to speculation about Winx running in Saturday week's Gr1 Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington. "We were just keeping all of our options open," Waller explained. "She can go 100 metres across the road to Rosehill or 1000km to Flemington. Melbourne had her in the spring but the autumn is all Sydney."
