Bastille Sydney Bound

Thursday, 2nd March 2017

Valuable colt Bastille (Snitzel-Starlevie, by Fasliyev) is likely to head north for The Championships in Sydney after maintaining his perfect record at Sandown in Melbourne yesterday. Raced by a high-profile syndicate that includes Coolmore Stud and the China Horse Club, the 3YO extended his unbeaten record to 2 wins from as many starts when scoring a soft 2.75 length win in a BenchMark 64 handicap over 1200 metres. By Arrowfield's top Gr1-winning stallion Snitzel, Bastille was a $775,000 purchase by Tom Magnier, John Warren Bloodstock & the China Horse Club at the 2015 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and hails from the family of New Zealand Oaks winner Starline and Gr1 Telegraph winner Starlit. "That was a good win. It's always hard to go from a maiden to a 64 [BenchMark 64 race]," co-trainer Ben Hayes told Racing.com. "We will probably look to get him out to over more distance now and hopefully we might see him in Sydney in one of those 3YO feature races." Races that the Lindsay Park team would no doubt be eyeing off include the Gr1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) and Gr1 Australian Derby in Sydney.
