Rain No Problems For Chautauqua

Thursday, 2nd March 2017

Co-trainer Michael Hawkes says he is unfazed by the prospect of a wet track for star sprinter Chautauqua when he lines up in the Gr1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday, reports ANZ Bloodstock News. “That won’t worry us. He’s won on soft ground, heavy ground,” Hawkes told Sky Sports Radio. “He’s versatile on both (soft and quick ground) and that’s what good horses do.” Chautauqua, who hasn't raced since finishing third to Super Cash in the Gr2 Rubiton Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on 11 February, will be taking on a high quality field that includes Gr1 winners Music Magnate, Japonisme, Hauraki, le Romaain, and Kiwi colt Ugo Foscolo who will be having his first start for new trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.
