Derby Winner Opts For Melbourne

Friday, 3rd March 2017

Victoria Derby winner Prized Icon (More Than Ready-Tropical Affair, by Danehill) is set to run in tomorrow's Australian Guineas at Flemington in preference to the Randwick Guineas in Sydney. Trainer James Cummings tweeted yesterday morning: "Prized Icon arrived @FlemingtonVRC early this morning to run in the Gr1 Aust Guineas. Good luck @GooreePark. Expecting a strong effort." However, Cummings advised Racing NSW stewards that "should an early decision be made, following adverse weather conditions, to transfer the Randwick Guineas to a later date he would then consider returning Prized Icon to Sydney to start in the Randwick Guineas." The Gooree Stud-owned Prized Icon is a $13 chance with Tab for the time-honoured $750,000 stallion-making race. The Tony McEvoy-trained Hey Doc is favourite at $3.40. Prized Icon will ridden by Dean Yendall and has drawn well in barrier three.
