Fastnet Rock Adds Japan Gr3 Winner

Monday, 6th March 2017

At Nakayama racecourse in Japan, Coolmore's former Gr1-winning Champion Australian Sire Fastnet Rock (Danehill-Piccadilly Circus, by Royal Academy) added an international Group success when 4YO Australian-bred mare Melagrana (Fastnet Rock-Ghaliah, by Secret Savings) scored by 0.5 length for trainer Manabu Ikezoe in the Yukan Fuji Sho Ocean Stakes (1200m) for 4YO+, over Nac Venus (Daiwa Major-Ready to please, by More Than Ready) & Xmas (Bago-Aramasa sniper, by Stay Gold). In posting her second stakes victory, Melagrana improved her record to 7 wins (including the Listed Lapis Lazuli Stakes) and 1 placing from 15 starts. Purchased by Kazumi Yoshida for $200,000 at the 2014 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Emirates Park, Melagrana hails from the prolific stakes producing family of Mutawaajid, Fatoon, Adeewin, Jivago, Fat Al, and 6-time Gr1 winner Shaftesbury Avenue.
