At Flemington in Melbourne, former Champion Australian Sire & 11-time Gr1-winning World Champion Miler Lonhro (Octagonal-Shadea, by Straight Strike) added a black-type success when 4YO mare Heatherly (Lonhro-Dancing Heather, by Danzero) provided jockey Damian Lane with an armchair ride in scoring by 1.8 lengths for trainers Mathew Ellerton & Simon Zahra in the $119,100 Listed Bob Hoysted Handicap (1000m) over 4YO mare Lady Esprit (Bel Esprit-Fanciful Bella, by Bellotto) & 5YO gelding Snappy Esprit (Bel Esprit-Bonbird, by Bluebird). Advancing her record to 6 wins (including the Gr2 Rubiton Stakes) and 4 placings (including the Gr1 Moir Stakes, Gr1 MRC Oakleigh Plate, Gr2 Ian McEwen Stakes & Listed Festival of Racing Stakes) from 14 starts for $590,450 earnings, Heatherly was a bargain $90,000 purchase at the 2014 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Broadwater Thoroughbreds (now Bhima). Co-trainer Mathew Ellerton commented post-race that the mare would now head to Sydney to target the Gr1 Galaxy on March 18.
