Le Romain Wins Gr1 Canterbury BMW Stakes

At Royal Randwick in NSW, Gr1-winning Darley shuttler & 2007 Gr1 Kentucky Derby runner-up Hard Spun (Danzig-Turkish Tryst, by Turkoman) celebrated a Gr1 weight-for-age success when 4YO gelding Le Romain (Hard Spun-Mignard, by Strategic) scored by a short head for trainer Kris Lees in the $500,000 Gr1 Canterbury BMW Stakes (1300m) for 3YOs+, over 6YO gelding Chautauqua (Encosta De Lago-Lovely Jubly, by Lion Hunter) and 5YO gelding Hauraki (Reset-Youthful Presence, by Dehere). Another runner to take advantage of the outside rail in the home straight, Le Romain took his record to 6 wins (including the Gr1 Cantala Stakes, Gr1 Randwick Guineas & last start's Gr3 Southern Cross Stakes) and 7 placings (including the Gr2 Tramway Stakes & Gr2 ATC Hobartville Stakes) from 15 starts for $1,887,075 earnings.
