Trapeze Artist Wins Gr3 Black Opal Stakes

Monday, 6th March 2017

At Canberra in the Australian Capital Territory, Arrowfield Stud's high profile Gr1-winning stallion Snitzel (Redoute's Choice-Snippets' Lass, by Snippets) added a Group success when 2YO bay colt Trapeze Artist (Snitzel-Treppes, by Domesday) scored by 3 lengths for trainer Gerald Ryan in the $300,000 Gr3 Black Opal Stakes (1200m) for 2YOs, over fellow 2YO colts Trekking (Street Cry-Outdoor, by Redoute's Choice) & Muraaqeb (Snitzel-Tafseel, by Starcraft). Trainer Gerald Ryan said Trapeze Artist would miss the Golden Slipper and be saved for the $1 million Gr1 ATC Sires' Produce Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on 1 April. "At home through the week he has been going terrific. I always thought that he was a good horse and he proved that today," Ryan told Sky Racing. "We haven't left him in the Slipper, his aim has always been the Sires and Champagne." Trapeze Artist, who hails from the female family of Gr1 winners Crawl and Boardwalk Angel, was passed in for $250,000 at the 2016 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Vieira Group. His record now reads 2 wins from 3 starts for $195,200 earnings.
